2019-10-17 · Retinal hemorrhage is a condition or we can say a disorder of the eye in which bleeding in the retina, the light-sensitive tissue, located on the back wall of the eye. It can affect more likely adults, and newborn babies and infants may also suffer from this disorder. Pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE) is a systemic disorder that affects the elastic tissue of the skin, the eye, and vascular system. Individuals most commonly present with angioid streaks of the retina found on routine eye examination or associated with retinal hemorrhage and/or characteristic papules in the skin.

Retinal hemorrhage

Retinal hemorrhages are critical indicators of diseases with vascular incompetence. May be only sign of abusive head trauma, blood dyscrasia, diabetes, hypertension, sickle cell disease, lupus erythematosus, and other systemic diseases. A retinal hemorrhage occurs when abnormal bleeding occurs within the blood vessels of the retina. The retina is a membrane that is located in the back of the eye. A retinal hemorrhage can be caused by either disease or an injury and can result in a permanent or temporary loss of visual acuity. Fluorescein angiography demonstrates blockage of underlying details in areas of hemorrhages. Underlying causes include retinal tear, bleeding from neovascularization, rupture of the internal limiting membrane, hypertensive retinopathy, posterior vitreous detachment, and vascular occlusion.
